Local Council & Government Services
Government agencies at all levels face enhanced scrutiny from the public due to their role as stewards of public monies. When these funds are misused by Government employees, contractors or external 3rd parties, this scrutiny is increased significantly. It is therefore imperative that Government agencies have the ability to conduct investigations in a timely fashion and in a manner designed to enhance the chances of securing a prosecution against offenders and, where possible, recovering funds and assets which have been misappropriated.
It is also important that public sector entities have sound fraud and corruption risk control frameworks in place to minimise the opportunities for fraud to occur. Instances of fraud and corruption affecting Government agencies can be devastating, causing a lack of confidence and suspicion and resulting in possible civil or criminal prosecutions. The importance of accountability and sound governance structures has been highlighted through several recent high profile cases such as the “sex and corruption” issues in Wollongong City Council 2008.
RISQ has developed a range of services to assist Government Departments to demonstrate accountability and meet governance requirements. Our services include:
- Managing fraud risk through the preparation of fraud control plans and the delivery of fraud awareness training;
- Implementing effective fraud control strategies and processes;
- The promotion of your organisations commitment to integrity and reporting;
- Undertaking Fraud Risk Assessments;
- Investigation of unethical behaviour including breaches of Local Government Codes of Conduct and conflict of interest allegations.
