When most people think about the hiring process, they usually imagine it being completed after the employee signs the dotted line. But the number of employees who resign during the first month show us otherwise -- could it be we need to look at a hiring "continuum" rather than hiring as a single point in time? That's arguably what the probation period is supposed to do, but does it really work that way in practice? According to recent research, part of the problem is primarily due to a poor onboarding process. Here is an excerpt from a recent article [...]
Another sobering reminder of why background screening is essential, especially when it comes to verifying the truth of someone's CV. He’s not listening, not really. And he’s not telling the truth, not really. Read the rest here.
Even in our business where CV fraud is regularly on our radar, this story has made our jaws drop. It turns out, Eman Sharobeem, an Australian of the year finalist, is in trouble for not telling the truth in a big way for over a decade. Not only does it look like she lied about who she is, but she could be facing jail time for her misconduct. This scandal is more evidence of why screening should cover overseas qualifications/records, and a serious reminder that checking who someone says they are isn't a luxury, it's an imperative. Here's an [...]
Why are your employees quitting? Research done by Gallup has boiled it down to a handful of reasons why employees move onto other opportunities. Here's an excerpt: If your company is looking for some guidance on how to keep employees from jumping ship, according to Gallup research, most employees quit for a few explainable reasons. But the reasons your best people leave might not be what most bosses think. Many think it's about the all-mighty dollar. Salary is important, sure, but Gallup says it doesn't buy employee loyalty. In their studies, only 22 percent of respondents in their study mentioned it as the [...]
